Some of you may remember the Antique Linens Quilt I did in 2003...it was gorgeous and I sewed it in silk satin and morie bengaline fabric. When it came time to make another one...my color sense ran to my other favorite color way...black and vibrant hand dyed fabric. I love doing appliqué whether it is on the embroider machine or the old fashioned method of driving the machine yourself. So it seemed that my new quilt would be in the opposite spectrum from the last one...Black and with beautiful appliqué embroidery designs. I still chose to use silk satin and for my second fabric, I chose silk dupioni. VERY elegant. That’s the Riches quilt.
Now...can you imagine, with all those boys, just how many pair of jeans our little family has gone through? Let’s just say that we kept Levis in business for the last 35 years or so. :o) Well, I can’t throw them away now can I? So, I decided to make a quilt out of them...not your traditional type of quilt that people lay down for the dog to sleep on but an elegant, double sided quilt that anyone would be glad to own. Both quilts use the included embroideries and the layouts are the same but boy are they totally different. I added a few other twists using peach colored linen, purple linen and some beautiful toile. This is of course, the Rags quilt. It’s not really, but there is such a stark difference, I needed a name that would show how different they are from each other.
